A street party last Saturday evening was put on hold after Detective Glenberry came upon citizens blocking the road and asked them to move it onto the sidewalk. The situation heated up as several party goers took offense to the detective’s attitude, stating that they were only helping out a friend who was having car trouble and weren’t doing anything illegal, the fact that the party was being held in front of a derelict house that may have drug ties to the local gang could have been the cause of the detective’s prejudice.
As the situation escalated, two more PD officers rolled up to the party, one of them being Velic M. Kestral, a candidate for Sheriff. With tensions rising it seemed that the locals would not give in to the officers demands for the party to be moved onto the sidewalk, with some of the armed citizens making veiled threats it seemed that things would take a turn for the worse. Thankfully the situation calmed down and no civilian or PD officers were injured. Disaster strikes La Lune Parish once again, this time at the Motel where an explosion was heard at 2:06pm, the rooms set ablaze and multiple tenants were forced to find other accommodation. The call came in to the fire station and according to local Fire Chief Joe Glenberry, he and his team were on the scene by 2:24pm to begin an immediate evacuation of the motel and the surrounding area. After nearly an hour of battling the flames, the fire was out by 3:20pm, there was only one casualty and no other civilian injuries but Fire Chief Joe was thrown 8 feet from the initial explosion and suffered a dislocated arm after he grabbed the railing to stop his fall, the only other injured firefighter was one of the probies that had sustained some injuries and needed to be taken to the hospital. When asked how the fire was started, the station was able to confirm that there were 2 explosive devices found in the room that had taken the brunt of the damage. While not ruling out a terrorist involvement, the bombing has possible links to the increase in gang and cartel activity, local authorities urge citizens to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to the police. There was an arrest made in La Lune's own motel in the evening which did result in an exchange of gunfire between an armed suspect and two La Lune officers. The suspect, currently held in custody, was wielding a machine gun as well as ordering his dog to attack the entering police officers. It is sad to report in the heat of the moment the dog was shot but it is good to hear that the dog will make a full recovery after receiving emergency care for its injuries. It is also good to report that there was no loss of human life in this incident as the gunman could easily have shot not just the officers but bystanders or even people in the next room over. The police had to act swiftly to prevent further injury or loss of life. The suspect was arrested while on parole for other violent crimes committed within the parish and is awaiting trial on those charges. When asked about the violent crimes within the Parish seeming to become more common, Sheriff Tiernan Juliesse had the following words to offer to the people of the Parish: "Not so much a rise, I'd say, as more blatant and openly out there, as if they feel there will be no consequences for their actions, the crime families. We are making sure there are consequences and will continue to do so. I've hired more deputies and the other Sheriff and myself are doing our damndest to make sure the parish knows that the police force is diligent in keeping it secure." While the shooting of the dog sparked a small, one woman protest it is important to remember the dog was in the act of attacking a law enforcement officer in the commission of their duties and the dog was not killed. It is tragic an animal had to be injured but this question should be asked. "Is it the fault of the officer who shot the dog ordered to attack them or the fault of the person who used the dog as a weapon with willful disregard for its safety and well being." We welcome any thoughts you wish to share on this matter. There was an altercation at the Whatever Wednesday party on the river involving Sheriff, Kevin Smouldernova. After some digging the name of the other party involved in the incident was discovered but will be withheld at this time. The incident seems to have begun with civilian swung upon the Sheriff to start a fight. I think it is important for it to be noted in this time of blaming the police for all of society's ills, I witnessed this fight myself and the Sheriff neither swung first nor used excessive force in dealing with his attacker. He did defend himself until the attacker indicated he was no longer a threat at which point instead of arresting the attacker, the Sheriff simply walked away. Now, we all know the Sheriff could have continued to beat upon the civilian or arrest him for assault on a police officer. That the Sheriff did none of these indicates a level of common sense and restraint I feel will serve this community well. Not everything needs to become a legal matter when it can be resolved between the persons in a civil fashion. Not that fighting is civil, but there was no need to further degrade the situation and the Sheriff showed the common sense to know this. I am sure there is much more to this story but for now, as gathering facts has been an adventure, I have chosen to just leave it here. |
